"Without the noise of controversy this play can finally be heard. Staged with admirable delicacy this 108 Productions' revival...has moments of hard-won sentiment that will win over the biggest skeptic." -New York Times
"Recommended! In director Nic Arnzen's heartfelt take, a multiracial, gender-bent ensemble led by the affecting James Brandon lands its core message ..." –Los Angeles Times
"The performances are remarkable... it is undeniably moving." -The Advocate
Terrence McNally's Corpus Christi is a retelling of the Jesus story, with Jesus as a gay man living in 1950s Corpus Christi, Texas. Told in a divine, respectful and heartfelt way, we are reminded through this story the rights of inclusive love for ALL people in all faiths.
Typically performed by thirteen young men, this
production continues to celebrate the play's message of embracing diversity by casting both men and women of a large age range, varying religious beliefs and all walks of life.
The show originally opened in 1998 to bomb threats and protests which easily overshadowed the play's message of inclusive love for all people. This Los Angeles production, starting humbly three years ago, has catapulted to international acclaim, touring around the world through the generosity, support and guidance of our audiences everywhere.
Join us in support of our continued tour through 2010 as we travel to the cities where misunderstanding and misrepresentation of the gay community are still quite prevalent. Through the medium of this play, we hope to ignite a dialogue and help to heal the increasing divide for homosexuals in their faith-based communities. We will begin in Orange County this Fall followed by some other cities across America next year, including Corpus Christi, Texas, culminating in an invitational performance at the MCC General Conference in Acapulco. We are being documented for a feature film that will capture the healing power of theater in these tumultuous times.
